The 16th Annual Houston White Cane Safety Day is just around the corner! This e-mail will provide information that you will need on Thursday, October 13th, 2022 and provides specific details for anyone using paratransit or bringing a vehicle.

WHEN: Thursday, October 13th, 2022

MARCH: Step off is at promptly 9:30 AM and being led by the Spirit of Houston, Cougar Band through the heart of campus from 4369 Wheeler Ave, Houston TX. MetroLift Travelers may access it through Metro by asking to go to the Houston White Cane Safety Day MARCH or by providing the address.

PROGRAM: 10:00 AM, University of Houston, Student Services Center South, Houston Ballroom, Second Floor, 4455 University Dr, Houston, TX. MetroLift Travelers may access it through Metro by asking to go to the Houston White Cane Safety Day or by providing the address.

END: Program and Resource Fair ends at 1:00PM

LUNCH: Provided

Below is important information for parking at Houston White Cane Safety Day for those bringing vehicles:

GARAGE PARKING: "WELCOME CENTER GARAGE” at 4400 University Dr, Houston, TX (corner of MLK formally known as Calhoun St). Cost of parking is $5 for 30 minutes, $10 for 30 minutes – 2 hours, $14 for 2 hours – 4 hours, and $18 for 4 hours or more. Garage clearance for vehicles is 6’8”. -For the MARCH, Drop off students at the Stop-Lights (do not turn right onto the street as there is no space for buses to turn around) Stay on Cougar Village Drive. The stop light is at the corner of: 4385 Wheeler Ave, Houston, TX. On the map this is shown as a triangle with a 6 inside.

-Students may walk down Wheeler Avenue (narrow-flat street) to: Justin Dart Center, 4369 Wheeler Ave, Houston, TX to the WCSD MARCH STEP-OFF meeting area. Volunteers will be available to assist you.

Bus drivers will continue to 5000 GULF WAY ADDRESS to park for the day: FREE for busses. Plenty of space for busses only.
